CD7 is a 40kD transmembrane, single-chain glycoprotein. CD7 is expressed by majority of peripheral blood T cells, NK cells and all Thymocytes. The presence or absence of CD7 is a useful marker for the classification of T- and NK cell malignancies. The CD7 molecule is absent in a subset of human T cells under certain physiologic conditions. Thus an increase in CD7 negative T cells can be seen in some inflammatory skin disease.
